Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 Cup Active Starter
  • 1 1/4 Cup Warm Milk
  • 4 Tbs Honey or Sugar
  • 2 Large Eggs
  • 4 Cups Flour
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 4 Tbs Butter Softened & Room Tempurature
  • 8 Tbs Butter On top of the dough.

Egg Wash

  • 1 Large Egg White
  • 1 Tbs Cold water

Instructions

  • 1. In a large bowl, mix together starter and warm milk until the starter has dissolved. Then add the sugar or honey and mix until dissolved.
    2. In a small bowl, whisk eggs. Then add to your starter mixture and stir until combined. Finally, add your flour and salt and mix until thoroughly combined.
    3. Add your room temperature butter and squeeze your dough to incorporate the butter. Keep mixing by hand until the butter is incorporated. Then cover your dough and place it in the refrigerator overnight, or at least 10 hours.
    4. Remove the dough from the refrigerator and let it rest on the counter for 2-4 hours until doubled in size.
    5. Remove the dough from the bowl onto a clean countertop. Roll the dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Spread 4 Tbs softened butter over the entire surface of the dough. Fold your dough into 3rds envelope style and roll it out again. Put an additional 4 Tbs of butter on top of the dough and then roll it up like you would a cinnamon roll.
    6. Cut the dough into 1 inch slices. Divide the rolls into two loaves and place them in buttered single loaf bread pans. Cover them with plastic wrap and allow them to rest on the counter for 30 minutes to 1 hour, until the dough has noticeably risen.
    7. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees. Apply an egg white wash to the top of the bread. Bake bread in the oven for about 45 minutes or until golden brown and baked through.
