Sourdough Sugar Cookies

About Jeanie

Hello Friends!

I’ve held onto this family sugar cookie recipe for ages, and recently, I decided to give it a twist with sourdough. And let me tell you, it’s been a hit!

I’ve made these cookies countless times, and they always turn out just right. The touch of sourness from the sourdough is subtle yet perfect. Sometimes, you wouldn’t even guess they’re sourdough, but trust me, it adds a unique flavor.

Oh, and here’s a fun fact – I’ve even let the dough ferment in the fridge for up to 4 days, and they still come out perfectly!

Sharing these recipes with you brings me so much joy, and I hope they bring you just as much happiness. Here’s to baking adventures and spreading joy with these delicious sourdough sugar cookies!

Lets get started!

Step 1:

Into your stand mixer put in 1 Cup(2 Sticks) of butter into the mixer. add 1 1/2 cups of sugar and cream together. Add 2 Eggs to the mixture in between.

Step 2:

Once those are well mixed add 2 tsp of vanilla and 1/2 cup of sourdough starter. Mix that together really well. Stop your mixer to scrape the sides periodically to make sure it mixes fully.

Step 3:

Add 4 1/2 Cups of flour, 1 tsp of salt, 1 tsp of baking soda to the stand mixer and mix until its thoroughly incorporated.

Step 4:

Take the dough out of the stand mixer and gather it into a ball. wrap it in plastic wrap and put it in the fridge for 6 – 48 hours. whenever you want to finish the cookies.

Step 5:

Take the dough out of the fridge 1 hour before you intend to cut and bake. heavily flour your countertop and remove the plastic from the dough. roll out the dough until its 1/2 inch thick. cut out the dough into the shape you want.

Step 6:

Bake the cookies at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes until the edges are slightly browned. let cool, frost with your favorite frosting and enjoy!
